Did you know that people who survive traumatic experiences are much more likely to develop OCD?
OCD often comes from a deep need to create safety.
A high-alert nervous system, hypervigilance and intrusive thoughts can all lead to developing routines that help a person feel safe. These could take the form of excessive checking, needing symmetry and balance, over-analysing relationships or obsessive worrying about harming others. The routines and rituals of OCD can be external actions and/or internal 'worry spirals'.
My approach is to work with you to better understand your traits and your unique patterns. We can figure out together which rituals are helpful and which are not. Our next step is to collaborate on a plan to break the unhelpful patterns. For the right clients, we can use Exposure and Response Prevention techniques (ERP) to help you do so.
OCD is a mountain to conquer. But it is your mountain. Together we can name it, map it, and help you navigate your way to the top.
